Proper Hospitality and the Kor Group have announced the San Francisco Proper Hotel will open later this summer. The Kelly Wearstler-designed property is located within the city’s iconic Flatiron Building. “While carefully preserving the original elements of this classified landmark, we looked to bring something new to San Francisco by collaging a reimagining of past, present and future,” Wearstler says. “The spirit of pre-modernist European influence, hand-selected vintage furnishings, and works by local artists are all part of the warm, inviting design mix.”
The historic building’s façade has been enhanced to reveal its Beaux Arts ingenuity, while the lobby has been fully refreshed by local artisans through centuries-old techniques. The lobby will serve as a meeting space and commissary hybrid, and evoke residential sensibilities outfitted with cozy enclaves. Reminiscent of classic European salons, a sophisticated lounge will be installed in the space, transitioning into the intimate, Cubism-inspired restaurant that Wearstler will dress in a variety of European modernist styles. The 131 guestrooms will convey residential qualities, merging both Old World French and Italian characteristics.
Inspired by the natural beauty and living spaces of the Viennese Scession movement, the expansive, 3,400-square-foot rooftop terrace will be appointed with a lounge and garden for a sense of romance. In addition to the terrace, guests will be able to host meetings and events in the 14-seat boardroom and the neighboring meeting room, which can accommodate between 50 and 75 people.
