Podcast: How much does the national media hate the Lakers?

Okay fine the national media doesn’t actually hate the Lakers. But still.

NBA: Preseason-Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

As we’re mere days away from the start of the season for the Los Angeles Lakers, I figured it was a good time to figure out what all we know about this team right now. To try to do this, I welcome Matt Moore of The Action Network. We do a lot of shrugging. But honestly, that’s okay!

We start the conversation by talking about the analysis of the Lakers. Interestingly enough, I wrote about how I thought pieces about how terrible the Lakers are going to be come to exist a while back. According to Matt this is definitely how it happens. Kind of. Okay maybe not, but still.

Based on my reading of the situation heading into the process leading to these kinds of pieces goes as follows:

Prognosticate a range of events for the team in question (in this exercise, the Lakers).

Target the lower half of that range and figure out what would have to happen to land the projection in that area.

Prioritize weaknesses of a team that would also land that projection lower.

Write out the social media post with special highlighting of how crappy this (now flawed) projection thinks the Lakers are going to be.

Profit.

We segue from here to topics covering the actual roster. Basically, we have questions. There are some answers that might make sense. But for the most part, there are aspects of the team that can’t really be prognosticated on because of how weird the roster is. And, again, that’s completely okay. Finding out about this stuff is half the fun.

As always, this is just a tidbit of the full context given in the show. Listen to the full discussion below and please check out old episodes, or guarantee you won’t miss any ever again by subscribing on iTunes.
